
To me, these locations were the most dangerous in the game, so if you can find enough Tinderboxes I would recommend saving just before areas you find difficult. I saved at the following locations: Before Storage, before Prison - Southern Block, before Morgue, before Choir and before the final Chancel section. Turn the brightness on your TV up as high as it will go. Although the game says consumables like laudanum and oil are limited compared to the regular game, I reached the Inner Sanctum with a full lantern and 5 oil containers still in my inventory. With all of this in mind, Hard Mode isn't that much more difficult than Normal mode, especially if you have experience of playing the game through once or twice already. Daniel's sanity meter, which causes the screen to go blurry, the sound to distort and the controls to become less responsive as it runs out, can cause him to die when it runs out. Enemies are faster and perceive you more easily. Based on my own experience and what I've been able to find online (Hard Mode has been available in the PC version for a while), the locations are random, and limit you to having 8 Tinderboxes in your inventory at one time. The locations they show up aren't consistent, but they only occasionally show in locations originally found in the game.

There are fewer Tinderboxes found throughout the game. You can only save at certain points if you have at least four Tinderboxes. Your saves are limited, and require four Tinderboxes. Hard Mode differs from the normal game in the following ways:
