Well, they are soon shown up as, along with Wato and Mizuno’s widow, they join the oddly named “Sherlock” who proceeds to dunk on their forensic photography skills and relentlessly questions the poor widow before and after driving her to tears.

While Wato has stayed behind to both give her statement to the police, and to stay with the body in general before next of kin can arrive, the analogue for Inspector Lestrade – named Gentaro Reimon – and “OC-DonutSteel” Sgt.
In case anyone is wondering, HBO Asia released a relationship chart for the core Season 1 cast and Wato is indeed going to be getting a therapist sometime soon – so we can all stop worrying. This, of course, has left Wato with some trauma that has been helped through with continued letters from her colleague and mentor Dr. Other than changing these two characters to women there are other, finer, details that are different off the bat: while Wato/Watson is still coming home from a war-torn country, in this version it’s Syria, and as a welfare volunteer doctor along with other medical teams that have had to return due to surviving an attempted bombing. Maybe I’m front loading this “review” here by stating this all at the start, but with a character that has been done almost every-which-way, and in a genre that definitely has, getting a new series that is actually pretty entertaining is worth just getting out there.
Turns out that such an expectation was actually the case and the show ended up being a really nice surprise and a hell of a watch. On the other hand, watching and reviewing/recapping a Japanese gender-swapped adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes character sounds like an amazing way to spend some time. It might be strange that I have decided to do something so completely out of my wheel-house as the focus of a recap series of articles.
